Dr. T. B. Mr. Jaya ( ආචාර්ය ටී.බී ජයා මැතිතුමා )


Born January 1, 1890, T.W. B. Jaya's childhood was a simple one among the village children. He was educated at St. Paul's College, Kotahena and St. Thomas' College, Colombo.

He took over as a teacher at Christchurch College, Kandy in January 1910 and taught Latin, Greek, Economics and History to inculcate patriotism, courage and personality in the students.

In 1917, while working as a teacher at Ananda College, Colombo, he provided the students with a complete education that would enable them to take over the country.

In 1921 he became the Principal of Zahira College, Maradana, Colombo. He was the founder of the then Kyria Girls' School in Colombo and the English School in Denham. Zahira Colleges were established in Aluthgama, Gampola, Matale and Puttalam and Teachers' Colleges were established in Aluthgama and Addalachena. Dr. T., an active member of the National Flag and National Anthem Composition Committee. B. Jaya passed away in 1960 in Dina, Saudi Arabia.
